Vegetative Fog Collection Cone: Once a network of fog collectors, origami water tanks, and irrigation bottle-tees has established trees in the landscape, vegetative fog collection cones can be installed to collect fog drip. Collection cones encircle tree trunks and are staked into the ground for stability.  As the foliage collects fog from the atmosphere it drops into the cone where it is collected and piped into storage. The cones are sized to allow water to drip from the outer edge of the foliage to the root zones.  Our tests showed that the cone collection system works best with needle tree species, such as the She-Oak (Casuarina spp.) Like the other components in the SQWater system, the fog cone is easy to construct out of inexpensive materials and easy to size as the tree grows.
